This blog is about the
Catholic Reformation. It focuses on Jesuits and how they created catholic
schools. It also covers what the world would be like without the Reformation.
What would happen without
the catholic reformation?
The catholic reformation was kicked off by a man named Martin Luther who was
not fond of the church abusing its power, he posted the 95 theses on the door
of a church. Martin Luther grew up being told to go into law by his family. In
1505 Martin Luther was caught in a near death experience. He was in a storm and
prayed to St. Anne to save his life. He swore that if she saved him he would
become a monk. Which she did, and he acted accordingly. If he was never in this
storm, then he would not have become a monk and started the reformation.
Without the catholic
reformation the world would be filled with immoral leaders like it once was.
The catholic reformation also known as the counter reformation took place in
1545 but it's influence is evident even today. Thanks to the many leaders that
decided to take a stand and separate worldliness from godliness, there are no
longer political figures who abuse their power at the cost of the church.
Pope Paul III was the
first pope of the counter reformation. He organized the Council of Trent. The
Council of Trent swept official orders on reformation. The council also
clarified doctrines, which are sets of beliefs of the church. The council is
responsible for assessing the issues that entered the church. There main goal
was to retaliate against Lutheran influence
The beliefs of the council
go as follows:
· Faith
has two origins
o The
bible and the tradition
· Man’s
salvation rests on God, but also believer’s faithfulness
· 7
sacraments are still in effect
· Christ’s
presence in the bread and wine of communion is real
· The
Canon of scriptures is determined
· Indulgences
remain but shall not be marketed
· Rules
on discipline are established
· Inquisition
is maintained
· Purgatory
is asserted and prayers for the deceased are in effect
The most
prominant product of the Catholic Reformation are Jesuits. Jesuits are a
member of the Society of Jesus, a Roman Catholic order of priests founded by
St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Francis Xavier, and others in 1534, to do missionary
work. The order was zealous in opposing the Reformation. Despite periodic
persecution it has retained an important influence in Catholic thought and
education. Jesuits opened many Catholic schools, there are still Catholic
schools open today, which shows that the effects of the Reformation.

Due to the counter
reformation the Catholic church flourished into a spiritually rich, literate
and educated church. The Jesuits arose in the catholic church, the Jesuits were
both religious and worldly. The Reformation united all churches which lead to
the ecumenical movement. This lead to Judeo-Christian heritage by allowing
people to connect spiritually with God as an individual not through the church.
Questions for the Reader:
